Written in the style of a Susan Hill ghost story.
When Sophie inherits an apartment in Paris that hasn't been lived in for 50 years, she is keen to discover its secrets. But the apartment is haunted by Sophie's great-aunt, the opera singer Berthe Chalgrin, and Sophie is falling in love with French lawyer Laurent Daviau. With his help Sophie must lay the ghost to rest, but in doing so, she feels she must keep Berthe's secret for the next 50 years.
Inspired by the true story of the 'lost' apartment of Marthe De Florian, which remained unopened for 70 years. You can read about that apartment here, in a wonderful article, complete with photographs.
